Xbox Elite Controller 3 prototype photos have resurfaced after an original r/Controller post showed an unfamiliar black Xbox gamepad. Microsoft has not announced an Elite Controller 3. Readers can no longer view that original post. Its identity, features, price and release timing remain unconfirmed.
Visible hardware is notable. Photos show the Xbox button, a circular D-pad and rear paddles. They also show an unusual lower opening. Its face resembles images from Brazil’s Anatel regulator. Tecnoblog published those earlier images. That match supports the report, but Microsoft has not confirmed it.
The lower wheels are the detail to watch
An underside image shows two knurled wheels near the headphone jack. It also shows the familiar removable paddle area. Current Elite Series 2 hardware does not have those wheels. However, photographs cannot establish their purpose. They also cannot show whether Microsoft will ship them in final hardware.
Earlier reporting linked the regulatory images to a removable battery and a possible local-to-cloud mode switch. Xbox has not confirmed either detail. The owner also reportedly could not use the newly surfaced controller normally. Treat each apparent feature as prototype evidence, not a promised specification.
In addition, the photos cannot verify the controller’s internal parts, latency or stick technology. Those details matter because they affect durability and everyday play. Microsoft will need to provide specifications before buyers can make a meaningful comparison.

Microsoft launched the Elite Series 2 in 2019. A successor would matter if Microsoft improves durability and adds useful controls. There is no official launch window or price.
